BUUR is verantwoordelijk voor de stedenbouwkundige inplanting van deze nieuwbouw en het ontwerp van de buitenruimte, als onderdeel van het raamcontract Hamont-Achel (RHA). In een volgende fase zal achter het gebouw ook een nieuw publiek park aangelegd worden. De bestaande tramlijn 21/22 naar Zwijnaarde krijgt een aftakking naar het UZ, dat zo als eerste Belgische Universitaire Ziekenhuiscampus door een tram ontsloten wordt. De omgeving van de campus wordt ook gekenmerkt door druk fietsverkeer.
